Village
on July 10, 2023

This may be a topic you hear me refer to often and more than likely, the post will be coming. It is worth noting that it has been a very tumultuous couple of years for everyone as we navigated through Covid and then the new norm.  I am happy to say we made it through but like most, not without some trials. We are very blessed that we only experienced one loss, not to Covid, but devastating nontheless because it was sudden and during Covid so we were not allowed to celebrate her in the traditional manner we are accustomed as a family.

With all of that being said, YES, I definitely owe some blogs because I definitely fell off. However, trying to maintain our mental health has been the priority over these last three years, which I think everyone can relate to. But no worries, the blogs are coming.

I jump on today to share my gratitude once again for The Village.  Dale was recently diagnosed with the onset of type two diabetes and has personally declared war. He said he does not have it and will take the steps necessary to offset the disease. Although we have family history, there is no doubt that the lack of physical activity coupled with some weight gain during Covid are contributing factors.

He took it very hard but pivoted quickly to learn more about it and more importantly how to, as he says, “get rid of it.” Step one of course is adjusting your diet and food intake. Of course that did not make him happy but he’s doing it because as he says “I don’t have that thing they’re saying I have, the devil is a liar!” oh yeah, Dale is going to be Dale, even in war. Step two, let’s get moving. He has a personal trainer that comes to the home and they get it done. The other days are treadmill days because he prefers that over a neighborhood walk unless it’s a group of people because if you know Dale then you know his favorite sport is talking…lol

Well, the last few weeks his Sista Friend Keyana has been taking him with her to a dance exercise class twice a week and boot camp twice a week. Talk about about being your brothers keeper. He loves being in a group setting and getting to hang out with a few friends. It is making a world of difference with his morale because he’s not a fan of exercising. I did mention, his favorite sport is talking, nothing physical. I love how our village receives information and jumps into “how can I help” mode. We are also on it in the home, but let’s be real, no one wants to exercise or be constantly reminded to do so by their mother or grandmother. He gets it done, but trust, he could truly do without it but understands we are just trying to be his accountability partners and not tell him what to do. He is the one that said he doesn’t have it and is willing to put in the work, we are merely helping him stay on track and committed.
