The Village

Mom

I am going to start the Village page by sharing a post I made on Dale’s Facebook page for his birthday in 2015.

Dale, you are truly what my heart looks like beating on the outside of my body. I am so grateful God trusted me with his precious son!! The pride I have in you is inmeasurable. You have surpassed what some who call themselves professionals once told us you’d never be able to do.

Today I celebrate you and how far you’ve come. I also thank you for teaching me the power of prayer, compassion, and forgiveness. When I became your mother I thought I was going to be the one doing all the teaching, but you have taught me and continue to teach me and challenge me to be a better person.

I LOVE YOU & PRAY FOR CONTINUOUS HAPPINESS FOR YOU. Thank you for choosing me Lord, I am truly grateful ??
Love Always,
Mommy

What to say about Dale, we can speak all day and still not scratch the surface of all the nuances that is Dale.

Dale has the soul of an old man but sees the world with all it’s wonders and faults through the eyes of a child. He sees evil in no one and love in everyone.

He can knock you off your feet with his amazing insight and wisdom (and does on a regular basis) and in the next breath will delight you with his enthusiasm about the most mundane thing.

If you meet him once you are a friend for life. He introduces himself to everyone he meets with the shake of a hand and calls anybody wearing a name tag by name as he introduces himself. And always in parting wishes them a blessed day. And you would be surprised how many will say young man you have made my day. And it is not fluff or just something to say, it is what he really wishes with all his heart for everyone.

And to this point here is my Dale experience:

I took Dale to the Jazz festival in Georgia one year and we went to eat at one of our cousins favorite restaurants. Now Dale had been to this same restaurant a few years earlier with this mom and our cousin.

When it was time to order the waitress approached the table she was delighted to see Dale and had remembered him from his prior visit which was a year or two ago. He called her by name and asked her how her journey to become an actress was going. That was something she had mentioned to him on his last visit. I am always floored as to how he does this. He will remember your name and the things you say, because they are important to you so they are important to him and he will remember.

Fast forward to finishing up our meal, he looks across the room and say’s “I know them” and before I could ask any questions he had left the table and was sitting down with an older couple. I approached the table and apologized for the interruption and they quickly told me that they were delighted to see him again and wanted to catch up with him for a few minutes.

I quickly retreated back to our table in awe. I reiterate, he had not been here for a year or two. Because of this immense interest in you when you are speaking, his kindness and gentle soul he evokes a memory that people do not easily forget. He is special to everyone he meets even with the passing of days, months or years.

That is the “MAGIC” of Dale.

Grandpa

Dale is a walking example of God’s Love for all people. He walks in God’s Grace with innocence and forgiveness for every body without a negative intention for anyone about any thing. You can only learn from his open approach to people and at the same time you are moved to protect him from the realities of the world.

Dale’s comprehension of the world, politics, religion, sports and music are fascinating. He dabbles in French, Spanish and music. He has a passion for singing and playing the trumpet. He loves the history of Jazz, a good movie and cheese pizza in any order. (Aka) “The Dale of Kingsbury”.

Dale and I meet on common ground of animated movies of artistic CAD creativity and genius as well as acoustic jazz which is genius and extraordinary as well. Ramsey Lewis “ Mother Nature’s Son was the beginning, Miles Davis was the catalyst with all of his followers and Wynton Marsalis is the Standard Barer. In this day and age, Dale is a very special person. A gift.

Much Love,

What can I say about Dale that hasn’t already been said by others who have the privilege of knowing him? Everyone should have an Andale Jerome Dixon, Jr. in their life. He is the embodiment of what the world should be like – loving, kind, caring, and blind to racial, ethnic, religious, political, and economic differences in people. Dale is a gift from God and I am blessed to be his Aunt and Godmother.

Dale truly has the favor of God on his life. Over the years, I have seen Dale’s challenges but have also witnessed his numerous and courageous triumphs. With the grit and determination of his mother, Ronnetta and his grandmother, Dee, Dale received the best education and training opportunities possible and thrived becoming the wonderful young man we know and love today.

Dale is very friendly and outgoing and the social connections he has made and the interactions he has had are beyond impressive. Dale is only 24 but he has been featured in magazines and interviewed on the radio and television news segments. In his short life he has met more television, music, and sports celebrities and personalities than most people would ever meet in a lifetime. He has met President Barack Obama and sang for Michelle Obama!

In addition, his Uncle Derek and I had the opportunity to attend a very classy fund raising event for KEEN. Dale was one of the featured performers for the night. People were coming up to him all evening to say hello and greet him like they were longtime friends. We were bowled over by the number of people on the list of “who’s who” in business, entertainment, television, and sports in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that Dale knew. He walked around a great part of the evening smiling, greeting everyone, and working the room like he was a presidential candidate.

That’s Dale! Our special Dale!
Love Uncle Derek and Aunt Gwen
