The envelope….
on March 9, 2020

Dale attended a revival at another church this past Wednesday. His church went to support a partnering church. He had an amazing time.

Great minds think alike! Dale ran into a long time friend and his mother. They happen to be driving by and the son spotted the banner advertising the revival and told his mother he’d love to attend. Well, I guess I shouldn’t say “they happened” because I believe in divine intervention and this wasn’t a chance encounter. Dale and his friend, who have been trying to set up a time to hang out, finally got together and were excited to praise and learn together.

The collection plate comes around and Dale was in a slight panic. He had not prepared to give, or so he thought. When his friends mother asked was he ok he said he wanted to give but didn’t have it (his envelope, I’ll explain that a little later). She said no worries and she gave him something to contribute.

In conversation with his grandmother when he got home he tells her about the plate. She was a little confused because she knew he had his wallet so she asked him if she could see his wallet. Sure enough, he had a little something in there so she asked “why did you need money from someone else? You have money that you could have put in the collection plate.” He smacks his forward and says “aw man, grandma I didn’t have an envelope so I couldn’t tithe.”

Lightbulb!!! So every Saturday Dale signs his check and I help him prepare his envelope. When the plate was coming around all he knew in the moment was “oh no, I don’t have my envelope!” He is VERY regimented so if that’s how he’s been taught to give doing anything outside of that is difficult for him.

I immediately understood where the disconnect was. What I couldn’t piece together was him getting money from his friend’s mother and willingly putting that in the plate. Very confusing to me that he put her cash in there but once she gave it to him he never thought oh, well I do have cash.

When I tell you his dedication is amazing and so refreshing for others to witness at his age. The complexity of the mind of Williams. We are always learning, keeps me on my toes for sure….
