Cousin Taray knows how much Dale loves Terry Ellis of EnVogue so he was generous to gift him a pair of tickets to see them live in concert. I am a fan, but the introvert in me wasn’t overly joyed about it, however I knew it would be a concert he’d never forget.
As we entered the venue, Dale tells one of the attendants that was taking his ticket how excited he was and how he was going to meet Terry Ellis. She responded by saying “Sir, I don’t even know who these ladies are and am very surprised you do because we’re about the same age.” I chuckled and told her I understood because that is a group from my era so their era generally wouldn’t know them but he was brought up on old school music, it was just safer for him to listen to.
To make a long story short, our server enjoyed interacting with Dale so much and had taken notice that Dale was singing every song, word for word. He even knew a couple of songs I didn’t know. Even the people sitting in our section were impressed at his enthusiasm over this group and fascinated that he was out singing us all.
Fast forward to about half way through the show and AJ, our server, ask me “Hey, I see my buddy is really enjoying himself and when I went up front to complete a POS I noticed an empty table very close to the stage, may I move you and my buddy up there?” With teary eyes I said “Yes please, he’d really enjoy that, thank you so much.”
Well, we had not been sitting up front for two minutes when the house lights came on a little. Cindy, one of the members of the group says she’s looking for a couple of people to come up stage. He jumped up with the quickness, waving his hand so fast I thought he’d fly away at any moment. Then I looked behind me and notice a majority of the people in the section we were sitting at earlier were yelling and pointing at Dale. Sure enough, she said “well, I guess we need to get this young man up here.”
He was the only male on the stage and was in heaven. I was so nervous for him that unfortunately all the pics I managed to take are blurry because I was shaking for him. I was so happy for him I hardly knew what to do with myself. He was so calm and cool on stage as he got to dance with Terry as he participated in the Soul Train line. Once he got off the stage it hit him and he started crying briefly, overwhelmed with emotions. It was a happy cry and it didn’t last long before pure joy sank in.
As we walked to the car several people who were also going to their cars dapped Dale up as everyone was pulling for him and tickled that he made it onto the stage to meet his love. Yes, he had managed to tell a good amount of people how much he loved Ms. Ellis.
Oh what a night to remember. The car ride home turned into the after concert party as we rocked to Free your mind and the rest will follow, be color blind, don’t be so shallow……
